Summer Training and Official Practice Dates

Thursday July 11th – “Newbies Meeting” anyone joining XC for the first time are asked to attend. We start promptly at 6pm on the home side bleachers on the track. At this meeting, the coaches and captains will take time to explain the sport, training, and expectations. You are encouraged to ask questions. After the meeting, the captains will take you on a jog of our home practice course. The will show you where you can start your training for the summer. So please come dressed to work out and also bring a bottle or two of water with you. 

Monday, July 15th: will be the start of your pre-season practice. Everyone will get workouts from me by e mail. 

Tuesday, July 16th / 6pm – first “Captain’s Practice” of the summer. From this date on, every Tuesday and Thursday evening, the Captain’s will begin practice promptly at 6pm. These are not mandatory, but the more you can attend, the more you learn. It is also a great social atmosphere for everyone to bond and get to know each other.

Official Team Practice Schedule to Start the 2019 SHS Cross Country Season
The schedule below is the start of our official season. These dates are not optional – Everyone is expected to be there and all paperwork and physicals taken care of well in advance. Miss the team time trial (without a valid excuse) or a majority of these practices (also without valid excuse) and you will not be suspended from the first meet (or possibly more).

Monday 8/19 @ 9:30am – bus to leave for Garret Mt (stop at 7-11 after practice)

Tuesday 8/20 @9:30am – bus to leave for Garret Mt (stop at 7-11 after practice)

Wednesday 8/21 @9:30am – bus to leave for Greystone Park (Bring pleanty of water / snack)

Thursday 8/22 @ 9:30am – bus to leave to Van Cortlandt Park (Bring plenty of water /snack)

Friday 8/23 @ 9:30am – at SHS track

Saturday 8/24 – OFF AND Sunday 8/25 OFF

Monday 8/26 @ 9:30am – bus to leave for Holmdel State Park (Bring plenty of drinks and some snacks for this trip; this will be a long practice)

Tuesday 8/27 @ 9:30am – bus to leave for Garret Mt (stop at 7-11 after practice)

Wednesday 8/28 @ 9:30am – TIME TRIAL bus to leave for Garret Mt (stop at 7-11 after practice)

Thursday 8/29 @ 9:30am – bus to leave to Bayonne Park (Bring plenty of drinks and some snacks for this trip; this will be a long practice)

*Friday 8/30 @ 9:30am- those who are not going away can meet on the HS track. If you can not attend, follow the workout below.

Saturday 8/31, Sunday 9/1, & Monday 9/2 – You are to do no less than a 4-6 mile easy run on 2 of these 3 days. Take one day off for R&R (suggested Monday)

Tuesday 9/3 @ 6:30pm – Meet at the HS track

Wednesday 9/4 @ 9:30am – bus to leave for Darlington Park (Bring snacks and drinks – there is nowhere to purchase anything)

Thursday 9/5 @12:30pm- at the HS track – Uniform Issue after practice (only day I distribute)

Friday 9/6 @12:30pm – at the HS track light workout & Team meeting
Saturday 9/7 – Opening Meet of the Season: Abington HS Invitational / Abington, PA
