XAVIER INVITATIONAL
Van Cortland Park, Bronx, NY
September 22, 2018
I think everyone got the taste of a very competitive field of runners at this meet. The attendance today was HUGE and so was the talent pool. This is the stuff that makes you a better and smarter runner as the season progresses. There is a lot more work needed all the way around on this squad, but I enjoyed the way you all functioned at this meet. You acted like a team, warmed up, warmed down, & supported each other. Patience, hard work, and determination will all pay off as the season moves forward. When we come back to Van Cortlandt next month, I know I will see a much improved team that can tackle this course with a better sense of racing.
My thanks to our team managers Arushi and Harvey. You were a tremendous help and made the day go so much smoother.
Some noted achievements:
*In the sophomore division, Nicholas Munoz ran a 16:10.98 to place 42nd in a field of 217 runners.
* Sebastian Flood was out top varsity man in 15:06.12 for 49th / 159.
* With two varsity runners dropped to the sophomore race, we still managed a varsity boys 15th team place/ 21 schools. That easily could have been a 10th or 11th place finish.
* The girls that we moved down to JV should not look at it as a demotion – the competition was still first rate. Kirsten and Alex earned medals and the team placed 10th/ 17 schools.
